Corporate Sustainability Management and Performance

In our company, the term "sustainability performance" reflects environmental initiatives aimed at the long-term development of social and economic dimensions. Through our policies and development activities, we address the world’s most pressing issue: climate change due to increasing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and their negative impact on the environment.

A strategic approach to sustainability is critical in the construction industry, where processes must adapt to the rapidly changing business environment and rising sustainability demands from society, authorities, global environmental agreements, legislation, competitors, investors, and clients.

The green/sustainable aspects of the construction industry are considered effective in providing benefits for users, offering a significant advantage in cost reduction and improving quality of life.

We address three strategic sustainability directions:

Environmental

Social

Governance

Sustainable Construction

Sustainable construction means building with renewable resources and materials that can be reused and/or recycled. It is focused on delivering a sustainable construction project aimed at creating environmentally and user-friendly structures.

Sustainable construction starts with the selection of land and project planning. That is why our focus in the early stages of project preparation is on the careful selection of materials, minimizing waste and energy consumption, and protecting the natural environment and the people in the area where construction will take place.

What do sustainable construction practices include?

Sustainable construction incorporates environmentally responsible and efficient strategies throughout the entire lifecycle—from planning, building, and operation to maintenance and eventual demolition or deconstruction.

In line with development trends in construction, we can broadly differentiate three types of building projects that vary according to design and execution criteria:

Sustainable Construction

This is an approach to the design, construction, and management of buildings that considers environmental, social, and economic aspects, aiming for long-term sustainability. The goal of sustainable construction is to reduce the negative impacts on the environment, conserve resources, create healthy and comfortable spaces, and promote social responsibility.

Green Building

As part of sustainable construction, green building emphasizes environmentally friendly practices and materials. Green building involves using renewable energy sources, efficient use of energy, water, and resources, natural and recycled materials, improved indoor environmental quality, minimal pollution, and care for biodiversity.

Low-Carbon Building

This focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the building's entire lifecycle. It includes reducing emissions during the production of building materials, ensuring energy-efficient operation of the building during use, and responsibly managing waste. The goal of low-carbon construction is to lower the carbon footprint of buildings and contribute to mitigating climate change.

All three concepts—sustainable construction, green building, and low-carbon construction—strive to create environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings. Each concept has its own specific features, but they share a common goal: reducing the environmental impact of construction and creating healthy and sustainable living spaces.

Challenges Faced by Sustainable Construction

There is a common belief that sustainable construction is expensive, which can make it seem like a less attractive option. However, the 2018 World Green Building Council report shows that although costs remain a concern, green building owners report savings through reduced operating costs due to the use of sustainable materials and improvements in quality of life.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Incorporating elements of sustainable construction in the execution of our projects adds a significant mark of excellence to our organization, demonstrating our corporate social responsibility. It shows how we, as a company, act to positively impact society, the environment, and development. Ethical considerations, green alternatives to materials, and technological advancements are ways in which the construction industry can demonstrate the social responsibility of businesses.
